This year at the NAPL Owners Conference, V.P. of Marketing, Operations and IT, Jillian Acord, and V.P. of Sales and Technical Services, Catherine Cartolano, met with business owners in the print industry.

This year at the NAPL Owners Conference, V.P. of Marketing, Operations and IT, Jillian Acord, and V.P. of Sales and Technical Services, Catherine Cartolano, met with business owners in the print industry. Many discussions at this year’s NAPL conference focused on the business environment and challenges print owners are experiencing. To continue to grow, many print company owners say they have focused on value added services and have adopted a hybrid print strategy, utilizing both digital and offset print technology to best serve their customer base.

“Computer-to-plate and digital presses are not an either/or scenario,” notes Suzanne Bostick, senior product manager for the Thermal DigiPlate™. “Savvy printers are benefiting from the flexibility to choose the most cost-effective technology to do the job.” Bostick adds, “Many printers talk about the challenge of how to price and estimate the cost of the different technologies. When substrate, quality and job length could be executed well from either technology, how quickly a printer can get a plate to press is a big factor is establishing the tipping point at which our customers prefer CTP over digital printing.”

At Mitsubishi Imaging, we help printers by offering CTP products that support existing investments in offset, save time and money in prepress, while also helping printers to preserve the environment. An ideal solution is our 100% processless and chemistry-free Thermal DigiPlate CTP system. This 2-up platesetter images 1200 dpi plates at a speed of 75 plates per hour without any chemistry, ribbons or ink cartridges. The patented thermal head creates a strong image on plate and the plates will run up to 5,000 impressions, making this a perfect solution for fast-to-press jobs.

(TOKYO, JAPAN) Mitsubishi Paper Mills (MPM) has announced the official launch of SWORD iJET premium coated production inkjet media. Since its introduction at drupa 2012, MPM has received positive feedback from the market for both the gloss and matte coated grades. SWORD iJET also was featured at Graph Expo ’12.

The launch of SWORD iJET, manufactured at MPM’s Hachinohe Mill, one of several production facilities located in Japan, is a true testament to the strong will and ability of MPM’s courageous employees to overcome such adversity. The Tsunami of 2011 caused extensive damage and flooding of Hachinohe’s production equipment.

Recent photo of Hachinohe Mill in Japan.

“Hachinohe Mill’s primary concern after the disaster was to safeguard its employees and local town’s people.” Said Mr. Atsuki Kimura of Mitsubishi Paper Mills, Specialty Paper Department. MPM supplied much needed electricity to the community from the mills on site power generation facility. It is encouraging that Hachinohe Mill was able to restore full manufacturing capabilities of its core paper products within 8 months. “We greatly appreciated all the support and kind words from our partners and customers during this difficult time, and look forward to continuing our tradition of launching value added products to the world.” added Mr. Kimura

Utilizing its extensive history and patents in specialty inkjet coatings, MPM has commercialized SWORD iJET 4.3 Gloss and other new FSC grades to have instant dry characteristics, universal ink compatibility, wide color gamut, and excellent ink adhesion. Sword iJET is compatible with all major production inkjet printers including printers from Dainippon Screen, Kodak and others. Unlike most other gloss coated media in the marketplace, SWORD iJET does not require post printing lamination or liquid UV.

SWORD iJET is available in a basis weight of 127.9gsm in both gloss and matte surfaces. The SWORD iJET portfolio will expand to include additional basis weights to target varied market opportunities such as mailers, reply cards and other printed products.

Mitsubishi Imaging (MPM), Inc., a leader in affordable and processless CTP systems and high quality inkjet media for proofing and printing, will introduce a number of new products for commercial printers of all sizes in Booth 841 at Graph Expo ’12 in Chicago.

Mitsubishi Imaging (MPM), Inc., a leader in affordable and processless CTP systems and high quality inkjet media for proofing and printing, will introduce a number of new products for commercial printers of all sizes in Booth 841 at Graph Expo ’12 in Chicago.

NEW VDP CHEMISTRY-FREE CTP SYSTEM

Following its successful introduction at drupa, and making its North American debut

at Graph Expo ’12, Mitsubishi Imaging introduces the new chem-free Violet DigiPlater VDP-CF3070 CTP platesetter with the latest generation of chem-free offset printing plates, Violet DigiPlate™ VDP.

The Violet DigiPlater VDP-CF3070 sets a new standard for offset printing in the small to medium-sized print market. The fully-automated Violet DigiPlater VDP-CF3070 outputs 20 plates per hour at a resolution of 2,540 dpi. Plates are exposed, punched, washed-off, dried and cut to format ready for immediate printing. With 2 roll magazines and the integrated register punch, the Violet DigiPlater offers ideal operating conditions where two plate formats can be output automatically without any loss in material or time. This innovative, compact and fully-automatic CTP platesetter is characterized by its environmental friendliness, extremely low energy consumption and a minimal CO2 footprint.

The Violet DigiPlate is a true chemical-free, violet sensitive polyester based offset printing plate, combining chem-free plate production with the offset quality and affordability of Mitsubishi Imaging’s Silver DigiPlate™. This unique plate utilizes a polymer cross-linking technology that creates the image area without chemicals, requiring only water for rinsing. VDP requires no traditional violet plate treatments such as pre-heating, post-baking and gumming.

“Based on the level of interest in Mitsubishi’s new VDP system and inkjet media at drupa, we are anticipating a highly successful Graph Expo and interest in all of our innovative products for both digital and offset printing,” said Catherine Cartolano, Vice President, Sales & Technical Services, Mitsubishi Imaging.

Eco-friendly Thermal DigiPlate™ Processless CTP System for 2-up printers

Also highlighting the Mitsubishi exhibit will be the processless and chem-free Thermal DigiPlate™ CTP system, capable of running 1,200 dpi plates at 75 plates per hour with no chemicals, no toner and no ink ribbons. Real savings on chemistry disposal, plate costs, maintenance, labor and time from using the Thermal DigiPlate™ System will give small to medium sized printers the competitive edge to gain more jobs and increase profitability.

Specialty Paper for High-speed, Continuous-feed Color Inkjet Printing

Mitsubishi Paper Mills, a world leader in specialty paper manufacturing, will be introducing SWORD iJET 4.3, a premium grade, high quality coated production inkjet media at Graph Expo ’12. Mitsubishi offers many grades of coated specialty media for printing on high-speed, continuous-feed, color inkjet presses. With Mitsubishi production inkjet media, true color reproduction, fast drying time and superior line sharpness can be achieved on a variety of applications such as variable data, financial, books, brochures, print-on-demand, direct mail and more.

DP Series Specialty Media highlights: luster and luster metallic

Mitsubishi will show exciting digital papers, such as the DP Series Specialty Media for HP Indigo Digital Offset Presses. The DP Series luster media has the look and feel of traditional resin coated photo paper and its enhanced luster metallic finish is very similar to silver halide metallic photo papers. Designated as an HP Certified Substrate, Mitsubishi Imaging’s DP Series Specialty Media is ideal for the production of a wide range of high quality printed materials, including: professional photo books; wedding albums; fine art prints; greeting cards; posters and brochures.

(RYE, NY) Mitsubishi Paper Mills Ltd., a leading manufacturer of specialty papers and chemistry-free CTP platesetters and plates and the parent company of Mitsubishi Imaging, will introduce a number of innovations for the printing industry at drupa ’12 with the theme, Print.Profit.Preserve.

“We are anticipating an exciting drupa ‘12 with a high level of interest in Mitsubishi’s innovative products for both digital and offset printing,” said Catherine Cartolano, Vice President, Sales & Technical Services, Mitsubishi Imaging. “With such a wide variety of printing technologies available, and our customers facing an extremely competitive environment, Mitsubishi is committed to providing the best, affordable solutions for the next generation of print.”

Hall 9/ Stand C22 Mitsubishi Paper Mills Ltd.

Highlighting the expansive Mitsubishi exhibit is the introduction of the new Violet DigiPlater (VDP-CF3070) CTP platesetter with the latest generation of chemical-free offset printing plates, Violet DigiPlate (VDP). The Violet DigiPlate is a true chemical-free polymer plate with cross-linking technology available in polyester plate material in various thicknesses up to 0.28 mm. The excellent printing properties of the Violet DigiPlate will be demonstrated live on a Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 74 offset press.

The VDP plate is imaged by a fully-automatic CTP internal drum device with violet laser. The VDP-CF3070 is designed for a maximum plate size of 780 x 680 mm (30.70” x 26.77”). After imaging, the plates are washed off in the built-in processor with only water and without any chemicals. This compact and environmentally-friendly CTP system is characterized by low energy consumption and chemical-free production.

Mitsubishi Paper Mills will also conduct technology demonstrations of their recycling unit designed to clean the wash-off water used in the platesetter, thereby making the water available for re-use after a process.

The VDP plate system will be available for commercial release in the Americas after Graph Expo ’12.

The Thermal DigiPlater TDP-459 for small offset printing will also be featured at drupa. This compact table-top system, designed for 2-up printing, images paper offset printing plates without any consumables other than the plate material itself. The TDP system is an environmentally-friendly CTP system which is chemical-free and processless.
